Spec Ops
the line is a TPS developed by Yager, an unknown software house and distributed
by 2K unfortunately overlooked and forgotten in a short time, I write unfortunately
because it's a great title with a truly original story.
The story is around an American Delta team
consisting of 3 members from which Martin Walker, the one we’ll control.
The
purpose of the mission is to look for survivors in Dubai, now destroyed by
constant sandstorms, after receiving a message from Colonel John Konrad in which
he explained his failed attempt in evacuating the city; Up to here everything
is ok, the problem is that the whole thing degenerates quickly bringing us to
resort to arms.
What makes
it special is the story: we are not the usual heroes that kill the bad guys for
a noble cause ('Murica Fuck yeah!), But simply some soldiers in a
"real" conflict in which there are no good or bad and all the actions
that we take soon we’ll regret them.
Indeed, it
is easy to see that the behavior of the team is professional and calm during
the first chapters, as it goes on and with all the horrendous actions forced to
do you become more and more violent and aggressive both in the execution of enemies
both in shouting orders to companions; in the end the story is nothing more
than a journey into the madness of war told in a superb manner.
But the
gameplay is not excellent as the plot, we are in fact faced with a generic
third person shooter with well know mechanical, though interesting the simple
management of the companions, you can in fact order the elimination of a given
target or the launch of a flashbang; this action possible only when you are
surrounded by enemies, which is not uncommon.
In the
firefights in fact we often are against small armies and in the hardest
difficulty you die a lot, making it a challenge.
The
graphics are great and the level design likewise; the setting of Dubai is
original and beautiful with sand that is the protagonist, it can also be
exploited in the crossfire, such as firing a stained glass by dropping it on
opponents.
I highly
recommend this game for the plot, as it is truly innovative for the genre, but
only if you are able to close an eye on the game mechanics , that are repetitive
and boring.
