Gabriel Knight - The Sins Of The Fathers 20th anniversary edition

After twenty one years, the Gabriel Knight series still is  a milestone for the graphic adventures genre for its undisputed merits, but today the age regarding the graphics quality could be seen (especially for the first and the third installment (The Beast Within is aged much better accompliced by the FMV), but fortunately the writer has filled this defect on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the game by developing a remake with a graphical standard for the time and to be honest even a handful of simplifications for the "modern" players as some areas locked during the first few days or the button that shows all selectable objects in the area in which we currently are;

Despite these little things required for the period or the graphic passed from the classic 2D to the 2.5 D now a must for the genre (with the hand-drawn  backgrounds wonderfully created helping to give atmosphere in New Orleans more than it did before in details and views) Sins of the Fathers is identical to its '93 counterpart,  having the same exciting and brilliant narrative full of memorable characters born from the mind of Jane Jensen along with what is perhaps one of the most beautiful soundtrack in the history of videogames, of course, all the songs have been redone in HQ by Robert Holmes.

Fortunately, the puzzles have remained the same with the addition of some small innovations that will surely please all the longtime players;

The voice actors, however, have been replaced (no Tim Curry then) but the new ones  sure did a splendid job.

If I need to look for flaws I'll go to talk about the animations that sometimes seem  little heavy but only if you are searching for the famous needle in a haystack.

Another good reason to buy this version is the addition of a small menu containing an archive with sketches of the original version, author interviews and  various comments.

In essence, this remake is absolutely to be taken  and play all in one breath since it is able to keep glued until the end credits; Whether you are old or a new adventurer is a good excuse to be nostalgic and relive the golden age of point and click adventures, or discover for the first time a fantastic saga that with a bit of hope could finally see a worthy conclusion in the future with the desired GK4 ...

GRADE: A++Just like 20 years ago Sins of the Fathers is and still remains a masterpiece and with this HD remake there is no excuse to not play it.
